AniForte's Tick Shield capsules consist of a combination of brewer's yeast and thiamine - also known as vitamin B1. Vitamin B influences various metabolic processes in the body and can, among other things, cause the natural skin scent to change into a scent repulsive to ticks. However, this is hardly, if at all, noticeable by humans.
A study from 2019 showed that dogs fed with a brewer's yeast-thiamine complex recorded a significantly lower number of ticks than those that were not fed with the complex. From this it can be deduced that a combination of brewer's yeast and thiamine can have a repulsive effect on ticks.
Some dry or wet food does not contain enough thiamine to ensure a normal supply of vitamin B. This can negatively affect normal vitamin B metabolism (note that cats need three times as much thiamine as dogs).

The capsule can be easily mixed with food or given with a treat. The capsules can be given continuously during the tick season from March to October. In some regions, year-round administration may be advisable.
Usually, the capsules are well accepted, even by fussy pets. Alternatively, the capsule can be opened, and the powder inside can be mixed with the food.
