Where can it be used?
Slippery Elm Bark’s soothing and lubricating effects can be used internally for the support of the digestive system and to provide healthy nutrients. It can also be used externally to be applied to scratches and other superficial wounds.
How does Slippery Elm Bark work?
The product consists of long-chain sugar molecules, also known as polysaccharides, which form a slimy mass when exposed to water. This slimy mass sits like a layer on the inner stomach and intestinal wall and can support your pet's gastrointestinal tract in a natural way - especially after extraordinary stress such as diarrhoea and vomiting.
In a study, a large number of dogs were treated with syrup made from elm bark. After only a few days of application, a significant improvement after diarrhoea and vomiting was achieved. The elm bark has been proven to lead to harmonization of the stomach and intestinal activity.
Another study has shown that elm bark supports the formation of mucus in the gastrointestinal tract - this prevents swallowed hairballs in cats from becoming matted and passing through the intestines more easily. Should swallowed hairs still not be excreted immediately, the elm bark has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties on the mucous membranes. For thousands of years, the interior of the elm bark has been used by the indigenous people in various ways - for example, to support the gastrointestinal tract.
Our Slippery Elm Bark Powder consists of 100% American red elm bark, which is gently dried and ground. This way you get a pure natural product, perfectly adapted to the needs of your animal due to our high quality standards. It has a high level of acceptance in terms of taste.
Tip: if, contrary to expectations, your pet does not like the mixed syrup, try stirring the elm bark powder into home-made chicken broth instead of water.
